Consulate General of El Salvador to Present New Works by Artist,
Sergio Santos
The effects of the Spanish Conquest and the catastrophic loss of Mayan text and culture are at the core of Santos's images. The exhibit presents the tension that the artist feels extends into present day and continues to affect Latin Americans and their descendants. Santos's intention with the images, however, is not to point fingers or assign blame. The project is instead a meditation on this complicated past. His ultimate hope, as always, is to inspire dialogue.
The exhibit will take place on November 22, 2008 10am to 5 pm at the Consulate General of El Salvador. Admission is free and open to the public.
Sergio Santos is a familiar face on the Houston fine art photography circuit. A past winner of the NALAC (National Association of Latino Arts and Culture) Fund For the Arts, and two time recipient of the Houston Arts Alliance (HAA), Individual Artist Grant Established Artist Fellowship, Santos' photography has been featured in group and individual shows ranging from Corpus Christi to Austin.
